Hougang · Punggol
Singapore’s largest and most popular residential district.
Historically, District 19 was a region of villages (kampongs) and agriculture, including rubber planting, poultry, and pig farming. Hougang, which means "back of the river" in Hokkien, was a settlement for Teochew and Hokkien immigrants. Today, it has transformed into a modern residential powerhouse, featuring Singapore's first "eco-town" in Punggol and the upcoming Punggol Digital District.
